Woman’s Hospital Flood Prevention
In March 2023, Durr Heavy Construction was awarded the Woman’s Hospital Flood Prevention project through Arkel Constructors, LLC. Durr’s scope included performing all earthwork, drainage, site utilities and roadwork. The genesis of the project was in direct response to a near-flooding event in 2016, which prompted Woman’s Hospital of Baton Rouge to invest over $6 million to enhance its stormwater management capabilities. The project involved the excavation and removal of over 170,000 CY of material from the existing campus lakes, which were then relocated across multiple parcels throughout the hospital property for future development. In addition to increasing the stormwater volume within the lakes, new drainage outfalls and box culverts were installed to significantly improve the campus’ drainage infrastructure and create an additional turnout from the hospital parking lot to Stumberg Drive.
