Durr Heavy Construction Earns National Honors From Associated Builders and Contractors

HARAHAN, LA – Durr Heavy Construction today announced work on the Ochsner Center for Nursing and Allied Health at Delgado Community College in New Orleans, LA has earned the company a national Excellence in Construction®️ Eagle Award, presented during the 2024 ABC Convention in Orlando, Florida, on March 14. The EIC awards recognized 91 of the nation’s top construction projects in 2023 as the leading national competition that annually honors general and specialty contractors for industry-leading, safe and innovative construction projects from across the country.

The Ochsner Center for Nursing and Allied Health Building is the latest expansion on Delgado’s City Park Campus. The $38.6 million project was made possible by the $20 million donation from Ochsner Health. The building houses the Delgado Charity School of Nursing and other existing programs. Durr’s scope of work for the project included, but was not limited to, underground utilities and sitework. Despite numerous challenges and obstacles, Durr was able to work together with key stakeholders to find solutions that worked for the overall project, allowing Durr to complete its scope of work safely, on schedule, and under budget.

The EIC awards honor every member of the construction team, including the contractor, owner, architect and engineer. The winning projects are judged on complexity, attractiveness, unique challenges overcome, completion time, innovation and safety.

A panel of industry experts served as the competition’s judges. This year’s judges included representatives from At Home, the Design-Build Institute of America, Engineering News-Record, Marriott, the National Institutes of Health, the National Institute of Building Sciences, the Smithsonian Institute and other select construction-related firms nationwide.

Durr Heavy Construction Named a National, Top-Performing US Construction Company by ABC

Durr Heavy Construction Receives National Excellence in Construction® Award

Harahan, LA – Durr Heavy Construction announced that its work on the New Orleans Cold Storage project in New Orleans, LA has earned the company a National Excellence in Construction Pyramid Award from Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) in the Specialty Construction, Commercial category. On March 16, 2023, ABC recognized the country’s top construction projects as well as leading companywide safety and diversity programs at the 33rd Annual Excellence in Construction® Awards gala in Kissimmee, Florida.

The New Orleans Cold Storage project started as a large-site work project but quickly developed into opportunities for Durr to step out of its typical scopes of work. These opportunities allowed Durr to showcase its teamwork and innovative work experience.

The Excellence in Construction Awards program is the industry’s leading competition, developed to honor innovative and high-quality merit shop construction projects. The award honors all construction team members, including the contractor, owner, architect and engineer. The winning projects, selected from entries submitted from across the nation, were judged on complexity, attractiveness, unique challenges overcome, completion time, workmanship, innovation, safety and cost. Eagle awards were presented to the highest scoring projects in each category with pyramid awards presented to the next highest scoring projects.

Durr Names Chief Operating Officer

Lee Mayeux

HARAHAN, LA (January 2023) – Durr Heavy Construction is pleased to announce the appointment of Lee C. Mayeux as its Chief Operating Officer. The position took effect on January 3, 2023.

In his new role, Mayeux is responsible for the operational performance of the company including project management, field operations, estimating, project development and other construction functions. He will act in place of the CEO when necessary.

“We are excited to add Lee as a valuable member of our team,” stated Durr CEO Dana Stumpf. “His executive experience and relationships in the construction industry and in the industrial sector will provide additional value to our clients, to our team and to our company.”

Mayeux comes to Durr with over 26 years of experience from three major industrial contractors specializing in civil, mechanical, and heavy industrial disciplines. Before joining the Durr team, Mayeux served as Executive Vice-President of Mechanical and General Construction for EXCEL Contractors since 2018. Prior to that, he was Vice President of Operations for Cajun Industrial Design and Construction with responsibilities of providing direct oversight for three integrated business lines and the newly acquired mechanical arm of Cajun Industries including operations in Louisiana, Texas, and Pipe Fabrication.

Mayeux holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Construction Management from Louisiana State University, where he graduated as a member of the Construction Honor Society, Sigma Lambda Chi. Mayeux served on the Associated Builders and Contractors Pelican Chapter as a state board member, executive board member and board member and vice-chair for Governmental Affairs, Education & Manpower, Member Growth and Member services.  He is also a member of ECC Future Leaders program, the St. Jude School Advisory board, Family Life Ministry (co-chair), St. Jude Prison Ministry and is active in coaching his daughters’ basketball and soccer teams.
