TAD GORMLEY STADIUM (1992)

Client:

Tad Gormley Stadium

Budget:

$3 Million

Location:

New Orleans, LA

Type of Work:

Demolition, Site Prep, Utilities & Paving

Scope of Work:

In preparation for the 1992 U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials, Durr was faced with a challenge as monumental as that facing the athletes themselves renovating the entire stadium surface to Olympic standards! A complete overhaul of the drainage and foundation systems was necessary in order to install the largest full-depth polyurethane track in the country. Strict tolerances of 1/8 inch in 10 feet were required to satisfy standards set by the Olympic Committee. Durr also constructed an additional practice track, requiring identical tolerances, across the street from the stadium.

Despite record rainfall, the stadium was finished in time to be a showcase to the nation. Besides the prestige of hosting the 1992 U.S. Olympic Trials, Tad Gormley Stadium is considered one of the finest high school sports facilities in the world. Since the renovations, Tad Gormley has been host to such prestigious sporting events as the 1993 NCAA Track and Field Championships and the 1998 U.S. Track and Field Championships. The facility's economic impact has been estimated at $110.7 million and it has created approximately 3,000 jobs
