Durr Heavy Construction was contracted by Phillips and Jordan of Knoxville, Tennessee in conjunction with the United States Army Corps of Engineers to provide disaster recovery services, debris management, and collection operations immediately following Hurricane Katrina. This project involved the coordination, scheduling and management of Durr crews and seven subcontractors within the Lakeview area of Orleans Parish. At the peak time of the cleanup project, there were more than seventy crews working for Durr on the project.Specific work items performed:
- Vegetation cleanup, C&D cleanup
- Municipal waste (HHG) collection and disposal
- White goods collection
- Hanger and leaner work
- Stump removal
- RACM demolition
- Non-RACM demolition
- TDSRS management
- Vegetative grinding
Our firm managed a TDSRS handling 185,000 cubic yards of C&D debris and 330,000 cubic yards of vegetative debris. All crews working under Durr collected and disposed of over 1,570,000 cubic yards of vegetation and C&D, 22,000 white goods, 15,300 hangers and leaners, and have demolished over 312 homes to date. More than 2340 private property debris removals have been completed.
