One of the more interesting and challenging projects to hit the north shore’s desk has been the storm drainage and site work for the new Church and associated parking/driveways for Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church Parish in Mandeville.First, Durr had to develop ways to work around a fully functioning church and school while ensuring the safety of the children and others around the site and to maintain access control to the site. Second, once clearing began, the adjacent wetlands became an unforeseen issue that migrated onto the site and had to be reacted upon quickly. Import structural fill water control dams needed to be built to keep the water from invading recently cleared areas and unsuitable soils not originally anticipated had to be removed and replaced with imported structural fill. This allowed the “bowl” to be filled and become a stable foundation for the General Contractor to commence construction of the new Church facility.
