Durr Receives Eagle Award

The National Building Museum in Washington, D.C. was the site of the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) 17th annual Excellence in Construction awards ceremony, where Durr Heavy Construction received the prestigious “Eagle Award”.

“ABC is proud to honor innovative, industry-leading projects with its Excellence in Construction award,” said Dave Meyer, 2007 ABC national chairman.  “The projects are outstanding examples of the exceptional craftsmanship and professionalism that embody construction.”
ABC's Excellence in Construction (EIC) awards program recognizes the quality and innovation of construction and honors all members of the construction team, including the contractor, owner, architect and engineer.  This year’s winners, selected from more than 300 entries submitted from across the United States, were judged on complexity, attractiveness, unusual challenges, completion time, workmanship, safety and budget.
Durr’s “Katrina Cottages” project was chosen for this award because it was completed in just two weeks and transformed an empty 11 acres track of land into a temporary neighborhood for first responders and personnel essential to the rebuilding efforts in the Gulf Coast Region.   Durr was one of only 40 companies nationwide that received this honor.
“It is a wonderful feeling to have the hard work of your team members recognized by your peers,” said Freddy Yoder, president of Durr Heavy Construction, on receiving the awards.

On a local level, the New Orleans/Bayou Chapter of ABC held its Excellence in Construction (EIC) Awards Program at the Chateau Country Club in Kenner last fall.
The awards program is designed to recognize the “best of the best” in the industry.  These awards are a testament to the quality and spirit of merit shop construction and proof that merit shop contractors are leading the way.  ABC celebrated twenty-one Industry Awards and fourteen STEP Awards.

Durr Heavy Construction, LLC was recognition in two categories at this year’s ceremony: safety and excellence.  For the eighth year in a row, Durr was awarded the prestige Platinum STEP award.

“We at Durr take a lot of pride in the fact that safety isn’t just a word we toss around but something we believe a core foundation in which to work by,” said Yoder.
