SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for installing, inspecting, testing, repairing, rebuilding and maintaining in efficient operating condition all types of engines and a wide variety of mechanical equipment designed for general or specific application in domestic, commercial, industrial and agricultural activities.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Repair and overhaul automobiles, trucks and heavy equipment.

2. Plan work procedure using charts, technical manuals and experience.

3. Raise vehicle, using hydraulic jack or hoist, to gain access to mechanical units bolted to underside of vehicle.

4. Remove unit, such as engine, transmission, or differential using wenches and hoist.

5. Repair or replace parts, such as pistons, rods, gears, valves and bearings, using mechanic’s hand tools.

6. Overhaul or replace carburetors, blowers, generators, distributors, starters and pumps.

7. Rebuild parts using drill presses and welding equipment.

8. Rewire ignition system, lights and instrument panel.

9. Adjust brakes and repair as needed.

10. Replace and adjust headlights, and install and repair accessories, such as radios, heaters and mirrors.

11. Analyze malfunctions and repairs, rebuild and maintain heavy construction equipment, such as cranes, power shovels, scrapers, paving machines, motor graders, trench-digging machines, conveyors, bulldozers, dredges, pumps, compressors and pneumatic tools.

12. Operate and inspect machines or equipment to diagnose defects.

13. Dismantle and reassemble equipment using hoists and hand tools.

14. Replace defective engines and subassemblies, such as transmissions.

15. Test overhauled equipment to insure operating efficiency.

16. Weld broken parts and appropriate structural members.

17.Remove, repair and replace tires for motor vehicle fleet and heavy equipment.

18. Perform all other duties assigned by Shop Foreman/Equipment Manager.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Three (3) to five (5) years experience as a mechanic for heavy equipment or construction company.

HS diploma or EGD.
